How can my photography knowledge help you learn more about photography! Read more……

The answer to this, is simple!

I will start by explaining the importance of the value I possess and aim to incorporate it into our company's offerings, even though it may seem a bit dull at first. -

PROGRESSION - I value businesses based on pricing, customer service, and product variety and this it what I wish to offer. I contribute to their growth through social media engagement, creating helpful posts, and sharing photography tips. I also work with charities to support those in need and continually develop my skills via online workshops.

The explanation provided is a brief overview aimed at stimulating creativity, offering support, and sharing advice on photography.

I thoroughly enjoy providing this opportunity to individuals of all learning styles, and I am now extending this offering to companies as either a one-on-one session or a workshop to assist in visual skill development, whether using a smartphone camera or a digital camera.

During each session, I provide relevant theory based on the topic discussed in our one-on-one conversation. I also supply a PDF containing essential information to review after the session ends. I believe in demonstrating and teaching through hands-on practice, as I find it to be the most effective method of learning for most individuals, although some may prefer taking notes.

During my recent one-on-one session with Holly, she expressed her interest in mastering the art of photography with her camera, specifically focusing on capturing images of dogs since she operates her own dog walking business.

Hollie's workshop honed in on specific areas of study that were customized to meet the her unique need.

2. Manual Mode
3. Focus modes
4. Depth of field and Fast shutter speed

I'm currently offering a portrait photography workshop that you can still book. Check below for more details.

Portrait Photography Course (2 half day workshops)

Sat 15th June & 22nd June

  • Time - 10.00 am - 1.00 pm

  • Yardley Arts, The Old School Hall (map)

The aim of these sessions is to enhance your understanding and knowledge of portrait photography and increase your skills by using both artificial and natural light.

We will examine and glean insights from the work of renowned portrait photographers. Through hands-on activities and group discussions, we will uncover a variety of lighting methods and their artistic approaches.

We will be exploring ideas for how to pose individuals and boosting your confidence in guiding them during a photo shoot, as well as finding ways to capture distant subjects.

We will learn how to use lighting to enrich our portraits and create visually engaging images. Additionally, we will explore the manipulation of light angles to evoke feelings and accentuate specific facial features.

Although based at the Arts Centre, some of the session will be outside. Please make sure to dress appropriately and consider bringing extra outfits or props for the portrait photographs. Students will model for each other.

Here are a few portrait photographers who I greatly admire. One of them is Annie Leibovitz, known for her influential work. Another is Steve McCurry, recognized for his documentary style and use of colour. It's important to also acknowledge the contributions of Dorothea Lange, Cindy Sherman, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Irving Penn. While there are numerous contemporary photographers, it's valuable to appreciate the lighting, tones, and overall quality found in traditional photography.

Past workshops to review for Spring.

Engaging in making solar prints outdoors with kids is a fun way to explore the sun and shadows. Children can learn about shapes and patterns while creating beautiful images. We will use natural materials and cyanotype printing technique. Each family will get tools to make their print, with parents helping arrange items and protect the paper from light.
