Still life photography

What do you think still life photography means?

Still, Life Photography is an art form where objects are arranged on a table or other flat surface to create a composition. It has been around since ancient times.

Are you aware that there is a range of still-life photography types?

Do you like any of these types of still-life photography? I personally enjoy food photography as I get to eat it afterwards. I also shot food photography for clients and I use tabletop-style food photography.

I honestly think that most of you who are reading this post have probably completed food, tabletop and found object type of still life photography. Product photography is more commercial photography and the found object still life type links towards fine art photography.

Why take a still-life photograph?

My blogs are always, my own opinions on any subject that I talk about and I am always interested in other’s points of view.

I feel that still, life photography is the most common type of photography used throughout social media. You see still-life images over the internet on websites, TV adverts & billboards. If you think about it, you take your own still life photographs each time you photograph what you have done or where you have been. People tend to document portraits, landscapes or still life photos. So without knowing it you take this type of image possibly on a day-to-day basis.

I think that for me, still life photography is good for my own professional practice and to document something I like. I then complete this type of photography with natural or studio lighting & with my DSLR or phone camera. It is an easy form of photography.

The main reason for taking a still life image is to show something and for social media the reason is documentation. For commercial uses & fine art. The importance of still life is the meaning of colour, objects and why each object has been included in the picture and the purpose. So this leads to the underlining meaning behind the photograph, why an object is positioned in a certain way and this then invites interaction from the viewer. This is often a reason for why this type of photography or how this type of photograph is used in adverting’s or commercial uses.

Is still life photography old and boring?

Some of you may feel or think that this type of photography is boring, but I think that this type can be as interesting as you make it and these days this style has been modernised, through combining influences and humour.
